a2 music video analysis
some of the shots in the video are too long and don't go with the tempo or with the song in general. the opening shot lasts for 40 seconds.
the shots don't have much relevance to the song and the guitar playing doesn't match the playing in the song so it loses some continuity.
the lip syncing in parts is good but sometimes the singers lips are completely covered by the microphone, making it hard to tell if he is properly lip syncing the words.
towards the end they have put some narrative shots which do not match the rest of the narrative shots.
with this video they have though about the style of the band a lot and have matched the costume of the original band.
they have also used a lot of shots to emphasis different instruments at different points in the song.
a lot of shots of the singer to highlight key lines in the song.
lip syncing is accurate throughout the song. although they could have used to singers for certain parts where there are two vocal parts instead of cutting two lines together.
they have used lots of short and choppy shots to match the pace and the style of the song.
although they have a lot of shots they could use a variety of angles and position the camera differently, because of the lack of variety in the different camera angles it could look like it was done in one take and could look tacky and rushed.
this video was very well done. only uses narrative but the narrative works well with the song.
could possible put some performance shots in in places to include some lip syncing.
the editing was well done using a variety of techniques.
they also used fonts and after effects to stick to the theme of heroes by making it into a comic book.
they have a good balance of narrative and performance.
the narrative matches the song well and is a simple but effective concept.
although you cannot see the singers face or lips his body movement emphasises the fact that he is singing the song.
they have thought about the shots of the performance because they have focused on the singer during the vocals and then focus on the instruments for the rest of the song.
most shots are short for the performance except for ones where the lines are the main focus.
most of the narrative shots are long to show that it is more of a story then a random narrative.
when analysing other A2 music videos of a similar genre to ours I was able to see which shots work in our genre so we knew what would look good when filming our video. i also gained an understanding of what sort of stage presence the band in our video should have by looking at other performance based videos.
